Artist’s Statement

I have made art all of my life. Having earned a BA in Journalism from Temple University, I worked for decades as an editor in medical and academic publishing. During the last two years, I have had the privilege and joy of being able to be a full-time artist.

In my mixed media artwork I strive to explore the natural world and the people around me. This also entails countering efforts to promote hateful separations between the self and the other; the self and nature; and the self and the spiritual, idiosyncratic, and different. As an artist, I believe it is my responsibility to use paper, paints, prints, stones, glass, feathers, and found objects to celebrate and fight for the wild beauty of the world and the teeming throngs of people, with their tangle of languages, thoughts, images, dreams, aspirations, and fears, who inhabit it.
